Slightly higher and deeper than most benches makes for a very comfortable seat for two with room for a cup of coffee as well.
Gentle curves and chamfers give interest and lightness to an otherwise heavy and very sturdy bench. The seat is constructed of 40mm planks glued together, preferably oak or ash. When available I have used live-edged slabs with the natural-edge shape of the tree trunk, as with the totara slab pictured, but suitable slabs are not easy to find. I chainsaw mill these myself and leave some of the milling marks to add to the story and character. At least three years are needed for the timber to dry thoroughly before any shaping begins.
A unique design incorporating wedged through tenon joinery and dowels is used to join the seat to the legs. The curves and joinery are created with a combination of power tools, chisels, planes and spoke shaves.
Overall Size in mm – 1200 l x 400 w x 475 h.
Price on application depending on timber.
